Free Online Learning in Art Ed

While going through my Feedly RSS feed this morning on my iPad, I came across two free online learning resources.

MoMA & Khan Academy

One is a partnership of MoMA Art Museum with the Khan Academy. Not that many online resources yet, but the ones available include a video on printmaking techniques and learning about the drip painting technique of American Abstraction Expressionist artist Jackson Pollock. The MoMA has some awesome artworks in its collection, including the very famous “Starry Night,” Dali’s “Persistence of Memory“ and Picasso’s “Les Demoiselles d’Avignon“. Hopefully they’ll develop something on these paintings or help bring some of its modern art collection to the masses.

Sketchbook Express workshop ideas led by art educator Tricia Fuglestead

iPads in Art Workshop

Another is a free iPad in art workshop entitled8 iPad Lessons with One Free App,” led by elementary art educator Tricia Fuglestead. Slated for Nov 13 at 7:00 pm EST, the online session will be showcasing how students can use the free iPad app Sketchbook Express in art. Teaching internationally, where it’s difficult (and very expensive) to get to the typical conference, I love these online-style PD opportunities.
